The Company retains core members as a Management Committee: Artistic Director, General Manager, Artistic Associates and Production Associates. Artistic and Production Associates are contracted on a renewable twelve-month basis. We engage actors, stage managers, directors, designers and other artists on an individual project basis.
Christopher Hay – Artistic Director
Christopher Hay has directed extensively in student theatre over the last few years, culminating in his presidency of the Sydney University Dramatic Society in 2009. During the year, he initiated a program of staged readings, including Execution of Justice (Emily Mann) for the Verge Arts Festival. His major directing credits have been King Lear in 2010 at the Adelaide Fringe Festival and The Laramie Project for two runs in 2008 at Seymour Centre and Newtown Theatre for So What? Productions. He also directed a staged reading of the new epilogue, The Laramie Project: Ten Years Later, as part of the world première of that work. His early work was in 2005 for the drama department of Bradfield College, including productions of Betrayal (Harold Pinter) and Huis Clos (Jean-Paul Sartre) and the teaching of classroom theatre studies, followed by Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me (Frank McGuiness) with SUDS in 2006. He has also produced and acted with SUDS, including Romeo and Juliet (2009), Julius Caesar (2008) and The Importance of Being Ernest (2008). In 2010, Christopher directed The Turn of the Screw (Benjamin Britten) for the Sydney University Opera Company, and a post- dramatic response to Euripides’ Hippolytos for SUDS.
Khym Scott – General Manager
Khym Scott is one of the founding production members of So What? Productions, having previously worked on over twenty shows during his time with the Sydney University Dramatic Society between 2006 and 2009.
Khym’s broad experience in technical theatre has allowed him to work in a number of different roles. As Sound Designer: Private View and pool (no water) (NIDA Directors Graduating Showcase: 2010), Matt & Ben (New Theatre, Sydney Fringe Festival 2010), Lucid (Parade Theatres: 2010); As Sound Operator: Julius Caesar (Wharf Theatre, Cry Havoc: 2009), Brand Spanking New Festival (New Theatre: 2009); As Technical Operator: Friends in Danger (Newtown Theatre: 2009) A Midsummer Night’s Dream (SUDS: 2007), Shake: Intervarsity Shakespeare Festival (PACT Theatre: 2006); As Producer: The Merry Wives of Windsor (SUDS: 2006), Hamlet (SUDS: 2007), Hamlet in the Quad (Verge Arts Festival 2007), Sydney University Arts Revue (2008, 2009); As Director: Romeo and Juliet (SUDS: 2009), Sydney University Architecture Revue (2007). He was also appointed as one of the Festival Directors of Orientation Week 2008 at The University of Sydney.
For So What? Productions Khym was Production Manager of the touring season of King Lear (2010) and produced The Laramie Project: Ten Years Later (2009) and the touring season of The Laramie Project (2008). He is currently studying towards a Bachelor of Dramatic Art (Production) at NIDA.
